Pathways & Curriculum

What is VCA Virtual actually?

What pathways do you offer?

Four: Great Hearts Online Classical (live Socratic, the Great Books, K–12), Wisconsin Virtual School (state-aligned bridge track for credit recovery, mid-program high schoolers, and late arrivals — WI-certified teachers), VCA Individualized (case-by-case Individualized Learning Plan for K–8 only; 9–12 in development), and On Fire Learning (supplemental catalog of self-paced courses for families who need flexibility). See the pathways overview.

Where does Christian formation happen at VCA Virtual?

Christian formation at VCA Virtual happens through the school’s daily life: chapel, daily devotions, the Faith Coach, and the community itself. Each pathway’s academic content has its own character — Great Hearts Online brings a rigorous classical curriculum built on Latin, logic, rhetoric, and the great books; WVS serves as a bridge track delivered by Wisconsin-certified teachers; On Fire is a supplemental catalog for families who need flexibility. The Christ-centered framing runs through the school’s rhythm — chapel, prayer, the relationships your family builds with named adults — every day.

What grades do you serve?

K–12 overall. Great Hearts Online Classical serves K–12. Individualized serves K–8 only (a 9–12 Individualized track is in development). WVS Bridge Track is built mainly for high-school credit recovery and mid-program transfers. On Fire supplements any pathway. K–2 has smaller cohort sizes (12 max in Live Mode); high school is structured for fewer, longer class blocks consistent with classical seminar pedagogy.

Is the curriculum accredited?

Yes. Victory Christian Academy is directly Cognia-accredited. The Great Hearts Online curriculum is also independently Cognia-accredited. WVS coursework is delivered by Wisconsin-certified teachers under DPI oversight via CESA 9. See accreditation.

Tuition & Choice Programs

What does it cost?

How much is tuition?

Tuition is $0, guaranteed, for Choice-eligible families — the voucher covers it in full. Some fees and supplies may apply across a school year (modest and disclosed in advance) — but they will never determine your enrollment. Need a laptop or basic supplies? We’ll provide them. For direct-pay families, tuition equals the state voucher amount: $11,305 K–8 / $13,799 9–12 (2026–27 DPI estimate; subject to statutory changes, final amounts confirmed mid-summer). See tuition.

Which Choice Programs do you accept?

All four: MPCP (Milwaukee), WPCP (Wisconsin), RPCP (Racine), SNSP (Special Needs). VCA Virtual is among very few Christian online schools in Wisconsin participating in all four. See Choice Programs.

Is there an income limit?

Yes for three of the four programs — and the limit is much higher than most families realize. The figures below are for a family of four; the threshold goes up by roughly $12,100 for each additional family member. Married couples also deduct $7,000 from family income before comparing.

WPCP (statewide): $70,730 family of 4 (about 220% of federal poverty).
MPCP & RPCP (Milwaukee & Racine USD residents): $96,450 family of 4 (about 300% of federal poverty).
SNSP: no income limit at all — eligibility is based on the scholar’s IEP or services plan.

Don’t talk yourself out of applying. Many families who assume they earn too much actually qualify once household size and the married deduction are factored in. The only way to know for sure is to apply — DPI determines eligibility, not us. Call admissions and we’ll walk you through it.

How does the Choice payment actually work?

The state pays VCA Virtual directly on a quarterly schedule via DPI. Choice families never write a tuition check — tuition is $0, guaranteed. Beyond tuition, VCA Virtual helps families who need it — laptop, basic supplies, home internet support — on a case-by-case basis. Small incidental fees may come up over the year (like at any public school), but they will never gate your enrollment.

A Day in the Life

What does a school day look like?

What time does the day start?

Daily devotions begin at 7:35 am. Wednesday is full chapel. Great Hearts Live classes meet Monday–Thursday mornings; Friday is a lighter day with independent work and Friday prayer & character enrichment. Exact times vary by grade and pathway and are confirmed at enrollment.

How much screen time per day?

Screen time varies by grade and pathway. K–2 Live mornings are deliberately shorter; older grades have longer live blocks balanced with offline reading, writing, and seminar prep. Most VCA Virtual families spend significant daily time off-screen with Great Books, written work, and family discussion. WVS and Individualized are flexible; On Fire is fully self-paced. We share specific schedules at enrollment.

Is the parent expected to teach?

No. Parents partner with the school but are not expected to teach core content. Great Hearts and WVS deliver instruction directly. The Individualized pathway involves more parent partnership by design. We support parents; we don’t replace teachers or expect parents to be teachers.

What about extracurriculars and community?

Three layers of belonging. VCA Virtual rhythms: daily devotions at 7:35 am, Wednesday online chapel, Friday prayer & character enrichment, and a Faith Coach paired with your family. Great Hearts Online: the classroom itself is the community — live small cohorts, Socratic conversation, and classmates from across the country. Milwaukee campus, in person: six Archangels sports, Bible Quizzing competitions four times a year, the school’s Christmas Program and Spirit Week, and K5/8th/12th graduation ceremonies — all open to any Virtual family willing to drive in.

If your family is looking for an online Bible study or a specific club, ask the Faith Coach — we will work to accommodate. See the Student Life page for the full picture.

Technology & Logistics

What do we need at home?

What computer or device do we need?

One laptop or Chromebook per Scholar, plus reliable home internet. Tablets (including iPads) are not recommended at any grade level — a real laptop or Chromebook is required for live class participation, writing, and assessments. If your family doesn’t have one, VCA Virtual will supply it. See tech requirements for full specs.

Does VCA provide the device?

Yes — if your family doesn’t have a working computer, VCA Virtual will supply one. Just tell us during enrollment. Most families use a computer they already have, but no family is turned away for not owning one.

Where is VCA based?

The brick-and-mortar Victory Christian Academy is at 2840 South 10th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53215. VCA Virtual is delivered online statewide, but the school’s home is Milwaukee — and we serve Milwaukee families who want both the live and the virtual program.

How do I get in touch with my coaches?

Email and scheduled video meetings primarily; phone for urgent issues. Both Academic Coach and Faith Coach reply within one business day during the school year.

Faith & Formation

What kind of Christian school?

What does VCA believe?

Seven articles govern the school: authority of Scripture, lordship of Christ, dignity of every human being, biblical marriage, parents as primary educators, Christian liberty, and biblical justice. Read all seven on the Statement of Faith page.

Do you welcome families from different Christian backgrounds?

Yes. VCA Virtual is a Christian school in the historic, biblical sense — serving families from Reformed, evangelical, Catholic, Orthodox, Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, charismatic, and other Christian traditions. Sunday worship belongs in your local church; chapel is the school’s daily turning toward Christ together.

What is a Faith Coach?

A named adult whose specific job is your student’s spiritual formation — a role unique to VCA Virtual. The Faith Coach is distinct from the Academic Coach: separate person, separate role, both serving every family. Cynthia Chirinda is our current Faith Coach. See leadership.

Enrollment Process

When and how do we apply?

When does enrollment open?

For 2026–27, Wisconsin DPI runs eight monthly Choice application windows February through September 2026: Feb 2–20, Mar 1–20, Apr 1–20, May 1–20, Jun 1–22, Jul 1–20, Aug 1–20, and Sep 1–14. The May window is open now. Tuition-paying families enroll any time. See important dates.

What’s the application process?

Four steps: request info, family consultation, submit your application, receive your welcome letter. Choice families also submit a parallel application via DPI's Online Parent Application. We coordinate both. Full walkthrough on the enroll page.

Can my student transfer mid-year?

Yes, when there is a clear academic or family reason. We have transferred students from public, private, charter, and homeschool backgrounds. Choice eligibility can transfer between participating schools, but specifics depend on your current Choice status and application timing — admissions can verify in one call.
