Singulis suo modo. To each in his own way.
The full classical curriculum — Great Books, Socratic methods, virtue formation — adapted to grades K–8 scholars with documented learning needs or foundational gaps. Dean-led, ILP-driven, classical to the core.
Most VCA Virtual families are well served by Great Hearts Online Classical or Wisconsin Virtual School. The Individualized pathway exists for K–8 scholars those standard programs cannot adequately serve — even with intervention layered beneath them.
It is still classical — oriented toward truth, goodness, and beauty, with the pacing, sequencing, and supports the scholar actually needs. Classical does not mean one-size-fits-all. It means a curriculum that takes the scholar we have, not the one a textbook expects, and forms them rigorously toward what is real and good and lovely.
This pathway is by referral and review, not by default. Every candidate is reviewed case-by-case. Fit matters more than label. The Dean of Instruction owns each Individualized Learning Plan personally — designing it, refining it quarterly, and adjusting as the scholar grows.
Currently offered for grades K–8 only. A 9–12 Individualized track is in development. High-school scholars who need an alternate path are best served by our Wisconsin Virtual School bridge.
The Individualized pathway is for students who need more than the standard programs can offer, even with added intervention.
IEPs, 504 plans, or diagnosed conditions that require curriculum adaptation beyond standard accommodations.
Skill levels that place the student more than two grade levels below their enrollment year in a core subject.
Advanced ability in some areas paired with substantial support needs in others.
Students returning to school after medical, family, or traumatic circumstances that interrupted learning.
Students requiring structured support beyond standard classroom pacing.
Every candidate is evaluated individually by the Dean of Instruction. Fit matters more than any single label.
Individualized placement is never automatic. It is a deliberate, transparent process — partnered with you from the first conversation through quarterly review.
You share your student’s story, existing documentation (IEPs, evaluations, prior-school records), and the questions you’re bringing to VCA.
The Dean of Instruction reviews records, administers diagnostic assessments, and determines whether Individualized is the right fit.
The Dean authors an Individualized Learning Plan — concrete goals, milestones, curriculum, support rhythms — and presents it for your review.
Every quarter we walk through growth data, celebrate progress, and adjust the ILP. Course corrections are built into the process.
The Individualized pathway is not a workaround for a student who simply prefers a different teacher. It is a structured, accountable, multi-year partnership for students whose path through school requires it.
If we don’t think we’re the right fit, we will tell you — and help you find someone who is. Fit is more important to us than enrollment.
If we are the right fit, you should expect: weekly contact with your Dean of Instruction, a written ILP you can read, quarterly review meetings, and the same Faith Coach, chapel, and Choice Program access every other VCA Virtual family receives.
